Mandala???

What an odd name for a blog…especially a blog about the mobile industry.  What on earth was Mark Jaffe thinking???

Actually, I had just returned from Tibet a few weeks ago, and was struck by the power of the Mandala in Tibetan Buddhism.  Tibetan Buddhists believe that within each person there is a seed of enlightenment that can be uncovered by visualizing and contemplating a Mandala.

What a noble goal for me, then – to create enough interesting content within Mobile Mandala that others can think about what I have written, and use that as a catalyst for them to add their own ‘seed of enlightenment’ to an interactive dialogue.

Out of a profound respect to all of the deeply religious Buddhists whom I had an opportunity to meet, I must quickly acknowledge that Mobile Mandala certainly does not pretend to or aspire to being a “spiritual teaching tool”.  And it certainly does not “access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises.” (from Wikipedia).

But, what a great success Mobile Mandala would be, if it could evolve into a place for enlightened dialogue.  What a great success it would be if it could achieve the Sanskrit connotation of ‘mandala’ by “taking the essence” of the mobile world and becoming the “circle” of interesting discourse about the mobile ecosystem.

That, then, is the goal of Mobile Mandala.  You will be the ultimate judge if we are on the way towards reaching it.  Feel free to agree, disagree, or simply add your own perspective. After all, we would not be consistent with the spirit of the Mandala if we were not free to enlighten each other.
